Abstract

Ultraviolet spectra and pK~a~ values for the title compounds and their O‐ and N‐ethyl derivatives show that in each case the quinolone form is favoured in aqueous solution. The results are compared qualitatively with those for 4‐quinolone and for findings in the gas phase.
