Trece años después de haber cerrado las aventuras de David Innes, Burroughs se decide a volver al mundo interior. Escrita a lo largo de 1928, Tanar de Pellucidar constituye la tercera novela del ciclo. En ella asistimos a cómo desde el norte de Pellucidar comienzan a llegar unos extraños invasores, los korsar, que conocen la tecnología de la superficie y que amenazan la paz y la seguridad del Imperio levantado por nuestros héroes. Tanar, hijo de Ghak, es enviado por Innes a parlamentar con ellos. En esta obra se introduce a Jason Gridley, cuyos experimentos con la radio (la invención de la fabulosa Onda Gridley) dan pie a la trama del libro y su continuación, el famoso cross-over con la serie de Tarzán. Un clásico de la literatura fantástica, imprescindible para cualquier aficionado, que combina con precisión el estilo romántico y aventurero que popularizó el género a principios del siglo XX.
