## Abstract The reactivity of the ketone moiety in 6,7‐dihydrobenzo[c]‐thiophen‐4(5__H__)‐ones 1 was used to generate new benzo[__c__]‐thiophene derivatives. The behaviour of the ketones under Vilsmeier‐Haack‐Arnold conditions was studied. Generally, the reactivity of the ketone moiety is shown to
