✦ Synopsis

Tales from the Edge: Emergence is the first in a series of science fiction short story collections set in the Maelstrom's Edge universe. In the far future, all of humanity's efforts to colonise the Spiral Arm of the galaxy are coming undone as a tidal wave of dark energy known as the Maelstrom devours planets and stars alike.

This first collection draws together stories by Maelstrom's Edge lead writers Tomas L. Martin and Stephen Gaskell, as well as Andrew Everett, which were written during development of the Maelstrom's Edge miniatures game. The first box set of the game, Battle For Zycanthus, was released in 2015 alongside the novels 'Faith' and 'Sacrifice', and the story 'the Hunter' in this volume ties into the events of the second novel.

The eight stories in this collection will explore the Maelstrom's Edge universe, taking readers to beleaguered Epirian Foundation shipyards beset by desperate refugees, rag-tag Broken ships hunting for riches in deep space and devout Karist Enclave priests looking to give their service to ascend into the Maelstrom. Starting with 'Transit', Stephen Gaskell's novelette of a young boy discovering the Maelstrom is coming to his world, these first selections of short fiction will take readers into a universe where every moment is a life's choice of what to do in a galaxy tearing itself apart.
