Abstract
In this letter, the use of a dual‐gate FET resistive mixer in a phase conjugating antenna is proposed. Applying a pulsed data signal to the second gate terminal, the amplitude of the time‐varying output conductance can be controlled. By means of an appropriate integration of the mixer with an aperture coupled patch, an amplitude shift keying modulation of the phase‐reversed signal is achieved. The capability of the proposed solution for retransmitting information back to the interrogation position is finally proved through measurements in a backscatter test setup. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
