Extremely intense triplet-triplet absorption spectra have been obserbvd for a series of aryl substituted triphenylenes and phcnanthrcnes.

These transitions are a result of escitcd State resonance interactions Thin rhc triplet manifold. Polarization measurements contirm that the linear polyphenyl-like states in these mokcules are responsible for these strong transitions.
