✦ Synopsis
method predicts the active pathways in the cell based on the number of metabolites detected from each metabolic pathway and their abundance in the samples. An algorithm written using the freely available software R (www.r-project.org) generates comparative graphs highlighting the up and downregulated pathways between different experimental conditions. In addition, this approach can also be based on protein and gene transcription levels which make easy the integration of data from different molecular levels. This approach has been validated using metabolomics data from different microorganisms growing under different environmental conditions coupled to proteome analysis. As a result, unexpected metabolic interactions between different organisms (microbe-microbe, microbe-host) have been unraveled. Therefore, this method allows professionals with different levels of experience to perform a rapid analysis of metabolomic data that can be easily interpreted and combined with other omics-related data.
