✦ Synopsis

Pentaethylbenzoic acid was produced in good yield bv saponification of the amide with 100% phosphoric acid, while under the same conditions pentamethylbenzamide was completely decarboxylated to pentamethylbenzene.

The cyclisation of o-(pentaethylbenzoy1)-benzoic acid yielded an alkaline soluble, yellow compound, the constitution of which is being further investigated.
