DL-ephedrine (hydroxymethylene IJC) lias heen prepared from

Ba'dCO3 by a 5 step synthesis. After 2 successive purijications by silicagel-partition column chromatography and by chroinatography on an ion exchange resin column AG 50 W-X2 DL-epliedritie (liydroxymethylene l a c ) HCl is obtained with a radioactive overall yield of 30 based on Ba14C03 (specijc activity : 17 mCijniM). The analysis by paper electrophoresis in sodium borate bufler at p H 9.2, in conjunction with the thin-layer and paper chroniatographies. enables control of radiochemical purity of DL-ephedrine 1".
