✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Aza Wittig reaction of bis(iminophosphorane) 3 with two equivalents of aryl isocyanates directly provided the bicyclic guanidines 4. However, 3 undergoes intramolecular aza Wittig reaction on thermal treatment to give the iminophosphorane 6 derived from the 2‐(o‐azidophenyl)‐4(3__H__)‐quinazolinone. Compound 6 reacts with isocyanates, acyl chlorides and carbon disulfide to yield quinazolino[4,3‐b]quinazoline derivatives 8a–c, 9a–c, 10, and 11.

## Abstract The synthesis of the previously unknown parent ring system was developed. Treatment of 3‐hydrazino‐1,2,4,5‐tetrazine (4) with diethoxymethyl acetate gave the parent ring system. Similar treatment of 3‐(3,5‐dimethylpyrazol‐1‐yl)‐6‐hydrazino‐1,2,4,5‐tetrazine (2) with one carbon cyclizing
4,4'-biphenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-thienyl, 2-furyl, is reported. The corresponding series of 2-aryl(heteroaryl)-4-trifluoromethyl-3H-pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]diazepin-4-ols obtained from intramolecular cyclization reaction of the respective trifluoroacetyl enamines or from the direct cyclocondensation reaction
