β¦ Synopsis
Alinite was synthesized from CaCI~ fluxes containing MgO. Mg is essential and cannot b~ omitted. In contrast to the formula given by Ilyukhin et al. EPMA measurements revealed the composition Ca9.9Mgo. 800.3[Si3.4AI0.6016]01.9C11. 0 Spectroscopic and X-ray structure investigations favour the CaOA octahedra for substitution by Mg. [ro phase transformations were detected by DTA and X-raYodiffraction. The thermal decomposition begins at 1000 C, its rate depends strongly on the crystal size.
