β¦ Synopsis
Synthetic Tl 2 (MoO 3 ) 3 PO 3 CH 3 is built up from infinite sheets of distorted octahedral MoO 6 groups, sharing vertices. These octahedral layers are ''capped'' by P-CH 3 entities (as tetrahedral methylphosphonate PO 3 CH 2Ψ 3 groups) on one face of each Mo/O sheet. Interlayer thallium cations provide charge compensation for the anionic sheets. Physical data are described. Crystal data: Tl 2 (MoO 3 ) 3 PO 3 CH 3 , M r β«Ψβ¬ 934.56, rhombohedral, space group R3 (No. 146), a β«Ψβ¬ 7.281 (1) A s , c β«Ψβ¬ 18.932 (2) A s , V β«Ψβ¬ 869.0 (3) A s 3 , Z β«Ψβ¬ 3, R(F) β«Ψβ¬ 4.76%, R w (F) β«Ψβ¬ 5.35% [824 observed reflections with I'3 (I)].

## Abstract The title compounds are the first examples of solventβfree oxide methanesulfonates of Mo, U, Re, and V.
The crystal structure and the luminescent properties of TlZn(PO 3 ) 3 are studied with respect to Tl Ψ stereochemistry. In this polyphosphate the Tl Ψ ions are located in tunnels created by the zinc polyphosphate network [Zn(PO 3 ) 3 ]. Actually the thallium atoms are found in a disymmetric con5gura
