โœฆ Synopsis

A one-step Mannich reaction has been developed for the immobilization of lquinolinol on aminopropylsilica gel that results in a product exhibiting a capacity of 466 f 20 pmol g -' for copper(B) ions. Capacity measurements were made by copper(B) uptake and elemental analysis. Characterization of the silica bound ligands in this synthetic context including IR spectrometry, "C NMR spectrometty, acid-base properties and stabilities were presented. The effect of pH on the extraction of coppe.rfIIl, nickel(B) and cadmium(B) for silica-immobilized 8quinolinol was also evaluated.
