phenyl(N-methoxy-N-methylcarbamoylmethyl)sulfoxide 1 is prepared in 2 steps starting from N-methoxy-N-methyichloroacetamide and thiophenol. Reagent 1 is useful for homologation of alkyl halides to ct,l~-unsaturated N-methoxy-N-methylamide compounds.
