✦ Synopsis

The reactions of Grignard reagents with methyl 2-acetamidoacrylate in the presente of CuI give fair to good yields of cr-amino esters; the corresponding a-deutero-or a-methyl-derivatives are obtained upon quenching with D+ or CH31, respectively.
