โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Three new reactive diluents were prepared from tung oil using a Dielsโ€Alder reaction. The dienophiles were methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MAS), 2,2,2โ€trifluoroethyl methacrylate (TFM) and triallyl ether acrylate (TAEA). The chemical structures were evaluated using ^1^H NMR, ^13^C NMR, FTโ€IR, GPC and MALDIโ€TOFโ€MS. Spectra evidence (NMR, MS) indicated that a sixโ€member ring were formed in all three reactions indicating a Dielsโ€Alder adduct. The reactive diluents were formulated with a soyaโ€based alkyd to evaluate viscosity reduction and drying time. The viscosity of alkyd was reduced up to 70% using the reactive diluents. The drying time for the autoxidative reactive diluents with alkyds were 1.8โ€1โ€7 times faster than alkyd alone.

## Abstract Novel biocomposites have been prepared by the free radical polymerization of a tung oilโ€based resin using spent germ, the coproduct of wet mill ethanol production, as a filler. The effect of filler particle size, amount of filler, amount of crosslinker, and molding pressure on the resul
