β¦ Synopsis
The reaction of phenyl lithium acetylide (a) with 2,6-drphenylpyrylium perchlorate ( 2) is solvent dependent. With diethyl ether as solvent, the isolated product differed from that previously reported and is reassigned as 2,6-diphenyl-4-phenylacetylenyl_4H_-pyran (2). On the other hand, in TBF the title compound (5) was obtained; its structure was confirmed by single-crystal x-ray crystallography.
