✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Bis‐, tris‐, and tetrakis‐trimethylgermylpropanoyl esters of p‐tert‐butylcalix[4]arenes 5, 7, and 8 were synthesized and their conformations in solution were determined by ^1^H and ^13^C NMR spectroscopy. The characteristic pair of doublets from the ArCH~2~Ar methylene protons was observed, indicating that all the prepared calixarenes were in the cone conformation. These germylated calixarenes failed to exhibit any appreciable cation‐capturing ability, indicating that further modification is required to make these compounds to be effective ditopic hosts. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
