✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Condensation of substituted benzoic acids with benzene in the presence of aluminium chloride is found to be possible, in general, only in the case of ortho‐substituted acids. No reaction could be obtained with benzoic acid itself, with meta‐ or para‐toluic acids, or, somewhat unexpectedly, with 2,4,6‐trimethylbenzoic acid.
