In the preparation of octadecyl dimethyl a-ethyl acetate ammonium chloride (C 18 DMAACl) (The molecular structure as shown in Scheme 1), the N,N-dimethyl octadecylamine was combined with ethyl chloroacetate at molar of 1: 1.2 at 40 8C for 5 h. The product was filtered and washed by acetone.
