T h i s a r t i c l e describes synthesis o f a l l 7 N-trideuteromethyl isotopomers of c a f f e i n e by r e a c t i o n o f trideuteromethyl i o d i d e (CZH31) w i t h the a p p r o p r i a t e xanthine molecules.
The use o f proton, deuterium and carbon-13-NMR as a f i r s t step i n p u r i t y assessment revealed 13C-NMR deuterium isotope e f f e c t s on the resonance o f perdeuteromethyl carbons.
