✦ Synopsis

The temperature dependence of products formed from flash vacuum pyrolysis (FVP) of 2-mercaptonicotinic acid 4 has been studied. FVP of 4 at 550Β°C and ca. 1Γ—10 -2 torr gave pyridothietone 3b and a trimer 5 as the major products. At higher temperature (800Β°C), FVP of 4 gave 2-mercaptopyridine 6 as the major product and 2,2%-dipyridyl disulphide 7 as the minor one.

## Abstract Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 1,2‐dialkoxybenzenes 1a‐c leads to the liberation of alkanes from the interacting side chains. A rearrangement of the skeleton yields the __o__‐hydroxy carbonyl compounds 2 and 4. The generation of phenol 3 can be rationalized by a decarbonylation. The latter r

Sulfenic acids (RSOH) have been implicated as intermediates in a wide variety of important chemical transformations including biological reacti0ns.l The high reactivity of these species and of their reaction products has hindered studies of their chemistry. Despite numerous
