β¦ Synopsis
An efficient route for the preparation of 5 4 1 -(2-butoxyethoxy) ethoxy]methyl-6-propyl-l,3-benzodiox~Ie-UL-phenyl-'~C (piperony l buto~ide-LJL-phenyl-'~C) is described. The synthesis consisted of 14 steps from Ba' C03 and gave the title compound in overall chemical yield of 8 %. A discussion of some of the possible alternate routes is provided, including the various drawbacks to these routes. The importance of order of substitution on the benzene ring to maximize yields of the title compound is emphasized.
