Abstract

A variety of 2โ€substituted thiophenes is readily obtained from 2โ€(2โ€thienyl)โ€4__H__โ€3,lโ€benzothiazinโ€4โ€one (2), which is formed when thiophene reacts with methyl 2โ€isothiocyanatobenzoate (1) in the presence of anhydrous stannic chloride.
