✦ Synopsis

A novel flocculant was synthesized, a method consisting of a poly(acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) complexed with an inorganic coagulant through the chemical bond between metal ions and carboxyl acid groups or amide ligands within the polymer. This complex polymeric flocculant is more readily available for purifying water than any single or mechanical mixture. The mechanism of flocculating is discussed and a practical use performed for wastewater from paper mill.
