-p-carborane-l-yl)propyl]-6-phenyl phenanthridinium chloride hydrochloride (13) has been synthesised by reacting 3,8-diacetamido-6-phenylphenanthridine ) in nitrobenzene at 120°C for 4 days and subsequent removal of the protective groups using 33% HBr/AcOH. Conversion to the chloride hydrochloride was accomplished by the action of hydrochloric acid on the pseudo-base of 13.
