The synthesis of regioisomeric bicyclo[9.3.1]pentadecane-3-one derivatives 1 and 2, interesting synthons for the preparation of novel diterpenoids, has been accomplished through an approach that entails as a key step the formation of a twelve-membered ring by an unprecedented intramolecular Dieckmann cyclisation.
