✦ Synopsis
In recent years Nitrok6mia developed for the uranium industry a nonpolar organic adsorbent, Varion SDAM-17, based on styrene-DVB-acrylonitrile. Laboratory-scale experiments yielded good results for recovery and concentration of dyes from rinse water originating from the textile industry and for the cleaning of radioactive waste. Reactive dye can be recovered from textile rinse water. The effluent treated by the adsorbent resin is colourless. The breakthrough curve is sharp and occurred after 65 BV. 3 BV of solvent was used to achieve 92.5% recovery. The greatest part of the eluent can be reused without treatment as the first fraction of the following elution. The volume of solvent belonging to the peak of adsorption can be distilled to recover dye and solvent. The efficiency of colour removing is > 99%. The adsorbed dye is 7.9 g/kg adsorbent. The efficiency bf radioactive waste cleaning with Varion SDAM-17 adsorbent, after 463 BV of effluent, is > 93% for Mn-54 and Ag-ll0. All the colloidal activity is fixed on the resin and part of the ionic radioactivity. After a second treatment column, consisting of a mixed bed ion-exchange resin, the cleaned water has practically no activity.
