β¦ Synopsis
A novel liquid wicking process has been developed to produce silver-sheathed Bi-2212 samples with oxide core thicknesses of 10-20 p~m, uniform oxide/silver interfaces, small non-superconducting phases and low porosity. This technique avoids many problems associated with oxide-powder-in-tube (OPIT) processing by exploiting the wicking behavior exhibited by Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BSCCO) liquid between silver surfaces. Critical current densities over 50 000 A/cm 2 at 4 K in self-field have been achieved with an isothermal melt process and Bi2.1Sr2Cao.9Cu20 x composition powder.

Certain characteristics in magnetic field dependences of critical current densities (Jc) for the Ag-sheathed Bi-2223 superconducting tape have been found. One property regards the direction of the magnetic field applied to the tape. Both arc values in the field, applied parallel and perpendicular to
High temperature ZrO -based insulation ceramic coatings were produced on Ag or AgMg sheathed Bi-2212 superconducting 2 tapes by reel-to-reel sol-gel technique for magnet technology. These coatings are exposed to thermal loadings under annealing conditions. The residual stresses of the coatings with
S upemonducting tapes with high-purity substituted TI(1223) powders (> 95 wt.%, Tc ~ 120 K) were produced by a new method based on an in-situ reaction under high pressure of helium (25 bar He/0.5 bar 02). A Ag(20 wt.% Au) alloy showed to be a good sheath material for an in-tape reaction up to 990Β°C,
