✦ Synopsis

A synthesis procedure is derived for the class of mass-spring systems having oldy a single path between excitation and response, which are connected to a load or source containing a single viscous damper. Realizability conditions are given. Methods are demonstrated for the realization of zeros of transmission at finite and infinite frequencies.

The transient response of non-linear spring mass systems with Coulomb damping, when subjected to a step function is investigated. For a restricted class of non-linear spring characteristics, exact expressions are developed for (i) the first peak of the response curves, and (ii) the time taken to rea
