β¦ Synopsis
A new chloride-silicate, "belinite", CasMg(Si04)4CI2, has been synthesized from a CaCI o flux. It crystalllzes in perfect octahedra (monoerysta~s). The structure determination revealed cubic symmetry, a = 15.084 ~, space group Fd~. Si-and Mg-atoms are tetrahedrally surrounded by oxygen, Ca occurs in a 6-fold(6xO) and a 8-fold (6xO + 2xCl) coordination. In contrast to the chloride-silicate alinite belinite reveals no isomorphic substitution. There is no connection of Ca-coordination-polyhedra via common faces in the structure. This corresponds to the poor hydraulicity obtained.
