A series of Ti modi®ed MCM-41 supports and their respective Mo catalysts were prepared and characterized to study the eect of support preparation method on the dispersion of titania and on the characteristics of Mo surface species. Two methods of post-synthetic incorporation of titania were tested:

✦ Synopsis
Nanoparticles of Pd supported in the mesopores of titania-modi5ed MCM-41 have been synthesized by the photodeposition method for the 5rst time and characterized by XPS spectroscopy, N 2 sorption isotherms, XRD, TEM, SEM, di4usion re6ectance UV+vis absorption spectra, and Raman spectra. The metallic Pd clusters were dispersed uniformly in the mesopores of titania-modi5ed MCM-41. The photocatalytic activity of Pd-deposited titania-modi5ed MCM-41 has been investigated. For the photoreduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III), Pd-deposited titania-modi5ed MCM-41 exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity than the supports did.
