All reagents were of analytical grade and were used without further purification. R 3 SnCl (R = Me, n-Bu, C 6 H 11 and Ph) were of commercial origin; (PhCH 2 ) n SnCl 4 Ϫ n (n = 1, 2) were prepared by literature methods. Solvents were dried by standard procedures.
