Ofloxacin (oflo) is able to interact with Co(II) and Zn(II) salts to form complexes with the general formula [M(oflo)(2)]. 4H(2)O, (M = Co, Zn). Bonding takes place through one of the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate group (acting as a monodentate) and the oxygen atom of the ketonic group. The IR ban

✦ Synopsis
New heterometallic complexes of Co, Ni, and Zn containing [RuNO(NO 2 ) 4 OH] 2À anion as polydentate ligand were synthesized and described by X-ray structural analysis. The distorted octahedral coordination sphere of the nonferrous metal is composed of three oxygen atoms of phosphine oxide ligands and three oxygen atoms of bridging OH and NO 2 groups from [RuNO(NO 2 ) 4 OH] 2À . High-level DFT calculations showed that the stability of Ru/M complexes is determined by the charge transfer from remote NO and NO 2 groups of the ruthenium anion to M 2+ and by the electrostatic interactions of M 2+ with coordinating oxygen atoms of OH and two NO 2 groups.
