A family of trinuclear heterometallic complexes of the formula

and the corresponding metal ions in water. They were characterised by elemental analysis, and their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures of all the complexes consist of trinuclear [{Pt(NH 3 ) 2 (NHCOtBu) 2 } 2 M] n+ (M = Mn 2+ , Fe 3+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ ) cations with M located at the centre.
