6,9-Dihydro-6,9-ethenocycloheptalgh]phenalen-l-one (A) has been svnthesized startine from the Diels-Alder adduct 161 of acepleiadiene ( 5) and maleic anhydride through 10 stepsast\rith reasonable yields. Spectroscopic properties of & suggested the intramolecular electron supply from the remote ethylenes to the phenalenone n-systems in the ground-state of this molecule.
