Attempts were made to prepare novel 7-alkoxyearbonyl-7,8,8-tricyanoquinodimethanes (ethoxy(5a), isopropoxy(5b), and tert-butoxy(5c)), 7,7-bis(alkoxycarbonyl)-8,8-dicyanoquinodimethanes (ethoxy(6a), isopropoxy(6h), and tert-butoxy(6c)), and 1-(2.2-dimcthyl-l.3-dioxane-4,6-dione-5-ylidene)-4-(dicyanomethylene)-2,5-cyclohexadienc(6d). 5e and 6d wcrc obtained as yellow and orange needles. respectively, but 5a, 5b and 6a-c could not be isolated as crystals. Homopolymerizations of 5e and 6d and their copolymerizations with styrene wcrc studied.
