✦ Synopsis
Several polycyanurates were synthesized using stirred interracial polycondensation of 2-piperidino-4,6-dichloro-s-triazine with various aromatic and aliphatic diols, viz. bisphenol-A (BPA), bisphenol-C (BPC), phenolphthalein (Ph), resorcinol (R), catechol (C), 1,8-dihydroxy anthraquinone (DHA-1,8) and ethylene glycol (EG). The polycyanurates were characterized in terms of solubility, density, viscosity, i.r. spectrum and thermal behaviour. The polycyanurates had reduced viscosities in the range 0.512-0.711 dl/g in chloroform at 25 + 0.1 °. The overall reactivity of diols based on reduced viscosity was found to decrease in the following order: PCBPA > PCPh > PCDEG > PCR > PCC > PCDHA-I,8 > PCBPC.
The thermal stability of polycyanurates based on various temperature characteristicswas found to decrease in the following order: PCR > PCDHA-I,8 > PCC > PCBPA > PCDEG > PCBPC > PCPh.
