✦ Synopsis
Synthesis and characterisation of mixed halophenylbismuthates(III) with a general formula Bu 4 N[PhBiX 2 Y] where X = Cl or Br; Y = Cl, Br or I; X ¹ Y are reported. The molecular structures of Bu 4 N[PhBiCl 2 Br] (1) and Bu 4 N-[PhBiBr 2 I] ( 2) are determined by X-ray crystallography. In mixed halophenylbismuthates, the anion exists as a dimer with bismuth in a distorted square pyramidal coordination. In the dimer the two phenyl groups occupy anti position to each other thereby minimising the repulsion.
