β¦ Synopsis
The new layered ternary transition-metal nitride (Fe 0.8 W 0.2 )WN 2 has been synthesized in a single-step ammonolysis of the transition-metal oxide precursor Fe 2 (WO 4 ) 3 . The nitride was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, a β«Ψβ¬ 2.87 A s , c β«Ψβ¬ 10.96 A s . The proposed structure consists of alternating layers of MN 6 (M β«Ψβ¬ W : Fe (1 : 4)) octahedra and M N 6 (M β«Ψβ¬ W) trigonal prisms. Four-probe conductivity measurements indicate poor metallic conductivity with a very small temperature dependence.
