✦ Synopsis

Polyazo(amide-imide)s were synthesized from N,N'-bismethylolazobenzenetetracarboxylic diimide and various dinitriles. The polycondensation were carried out in conc. sulphurie acid. The viscosities of the polymers ranged from 0.9 l.l dl/g. The polymers were characterized by i.r. and ~H-NMR. The solubility, density, crystallinity and thermal stability of the polymers were also examined.

Novel poly(amide imide)s having inherent viscosities in the range 0.89-1.56 dL/g were prepared by the method of low temperature polycondensation in solution of N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA) from aromatic diamines and a new monomer: N-[4"-(chloroformylphenyl) -4'-iminobenzoyl] trimellitimide chloride.
