A novel method is described for the preparation of offretite/erionite type zeolites without use of nitrogen-containing templates. It is based on the introduction of a certain amount of potassium ions into a synthesis system leading to the formation of an omega type zeolite. The synthesized product i

✦ Synopsis
A new structure-directing agent (SDA), 1-azoniatricyclo[4.4.4.0 1Y6 ]tetradecane hydroxide, was synthesized and its performance in the synthesis of aluminosilicate molecular sieve materials was investigated. 1-azoniatricyclo[4.4.4.0 1Y6 ]tetradecane was found to lead to the ITE and IFR topologies. The ITE-type zeolite named Mulhouse No. 14 (Mu-14) was synthesized as a single phase when the Si/Al ratio of the starting gel varied between 15 and 30. Increasing the Si/Al ratio over 45 led to the formation of an IFR-type material, and quartz or a layered silicate as coproducts. Mu-14 was characterized by XRD, SEM, TG/DTA, N 2 adsorption, 29 Si MAS and CP-MAS MNR, 27 Al MAS NMR, 13 C MAS and liquid NMR, and chemical analyses.
