✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of polysiloxanes containing 4′‐substituted stilbene‐4‐carboxylic acid side groups attached through flexible spacers containing three, six or eleven methylene groups are described. All polymers exhibit smectic phases. Two of the six synthesized ω‐alkenylstilbenecarboxylates exhibit liquid crystalline behaviour characterized by two smectic phases.
