We combine scanning tunneling spectroscopy and photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy (PLE) to study the electronic level structure and single electron charging effects of InAs and novel InAs/ZnSe core/shell nanocrystal quantum dots. The two techniques provide complementary information on the ele
