✦ Synopsis
An organically templated iron phosphate, (C 4 H 12 N 2 ) 2 [Fe 6 (HPO 4 ) 2 (PO 4 ) 6 (H 2 O) 2 ] • H 2 O, has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and Mo¨ssbauer spectroscopy. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1 (No. 2) with a ؍ 9.1768(1), b ؍ 12.7229(1), c ؍ 16.4830(2) A s , ؍ 68.530(1), ؍ 83.285(1), ؍ 73.259(1)°, V ؍ 1714.90
(3) A s 3 , and Z ؍ 2. The structure consists of layers of FeO 6 octahedra and phosphate tetrahedra, which are pillared through FeO 5 trigonal bipyramids and phosphate tetrahedra to form a three-dimensional framework structure. The framework contains infinite channels in which the charge compensating diprotonated piperazinium cations reside.
