✦ Synopsis
(\mathrm{Ba}{2} \mathrm{Cu}{2} \mathrm{O}{5}) and its solid solutions with (\mathrm{Bi}{2} \mathrm{O}_{3}) have been synthesized and characterized using powder XRD, infrared spectroscopy, and DSC. The orthorhombic unit cell dimensions have been measured with the help of powder X-ray diffraction. The controversial valence state of copper, examined through electron paramagnetic resonance, was found to be divalent. The structural and magnetic resonance results are discussed in detail. 1995 Academic Press, Inc.

A 5-layer mixed valence oxide, \(\mathrm{BaVO}_{2.8}\), has been synthesized by reducing \(\mathrm{Ba}_{2} \mathrm{~V}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{7}\) in high purity hydrogen gas at \(1350^{\circ} \mathrm{C}\). \(\mathrm{BaVO}_{2.9}\) has been obtained by room temperature oxidation of \(\mathrm{BaVO}_{2.8}\) i
New oxides of general formula Ba 2 In 2Àx Co x O 5 (0.5 x 1.70) have been synthesized as polycrystalline materials and fully characterized by means of X-rays. They are all isostructural and crystallize in a perovskite-type structure, showing cubic symmetry, space group Pm3m. The magnetic properties
