Abstract

A novel oligosiloxane containing alternative ladderlike structure involving viologen groups has been prepared via donor–acceptor interaction‐assisted template polymerization. The monomer used as the electron‐donor component, N,N ′‐bis(3‐methyldimethoxyl‐silylpropyl)‐4,4′‐bipyridinium dihexafluorophosphate and its precursor, N,N ′‐bis(3‐methyldimethoxyl‐silylpropyl)‐4,4′‐bipyridinium dibromide were first synthesized successfully in high yield. This oligosiloxane, which displays interesting electrochromic properties, has been characterized by FTIR, UV–vis, ^1^H NMR, ^29^Si NMR, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and vapour pressure osmometry (VPO).
