✦ Synopsis

A new (\mathrm{Bi}(\mathrm{V})) containing cubic perovskite, (\mathrm{BaBi}{1 / 3} \mathrm{Zn}{1 / 3} \mathrm{O}{3}) has been prepared under high oxygen pressure in a tetrahedral anvil press. The lattice parameter calculated from powder X-ray diffraction data is (a=4.208 \pm 0.001 \AA) (space group, (P m 3 m) ), implying a disorder of (\mathrm{Bi}) and (\mathrm{Zn}) atoms at the (B)-site of the (A B O{3}) perovskite structure. The compound is an insulator and has a relatively high dielectric constant. No dielectric anomaly is observed between liquid nitrogen and room temperature. O 1993 Academic Press, Inc.

A new layered cuprate with the composition LiI 3 Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca Cu 2 O 8 has been synthesized by the reaction of Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8 with lithium iodide under an atmosphere of iodine at 300Β°C. The new cuprate is pale green and lamellar and crystallized in a tetragonal cell with the lattice parameters
