Four new 3-[4-(alkoxycarbonyl)phenyl]sydnones have been synthesised. The hydrazide 4 is condensed with various aromatic aldehydes to obtain the corresponding Schiff bases. Antimicrobial activities of the sydnones and some Schiff bases are reported. Mass spectral fragmentation of 3[4-(ethoxycarbonyl)
