The total synthesis of 7′,8′‐dihydro‐γ‐carotene (β‐zeacarotene) has been accomplished by a WITTIG reaction of 15,15′‐dehydro‐apo‐12′‐carotenal(C~35~) with farnesyltriphenyl‐phosphonium bromide.
